Junior Librarian
As a Junior Librarian, you will be responsible for assisting in the management and organization of our library collection. This includes cataloging new materials, maintaining library databases, and helping patrons locate resources. You will also provide reference and research assistance to library users, as well as assist with library events and programs. This is an entry-level position suitable for fresh graduates or individuals with limited experience in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Catalog new materials using the Dewey Decimal System or other classification systems
- Maintain library databases and ensure accuracy of records
- Assist patrons in locating resources and provide reference and research assistance
- Assist with circulation services such as checking out materials, collecting fines, and issuing library cards
- Shelve returned materials in their proper location
- Assist with planning and implementing library events and programs
- Help maintain a clean and organized library space
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Experience working in a library setting is a plus but not required
- Familiarity with cataloging systems such as Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress Classification
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency in computer skills, including MS Office Suite
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Location: Funchal, Portugal (accommodation may be provided)
Salary: $1500 USD/month
