Preservation Architect
As a Preservation Architect, you will be responsible for preserving and restoring historical buildings and structures. Your duties will include conducting research, preparing preservation plans, and overseeing the construction or renovation projects. You will work closely with clients, contractors, and other professionals to ensure the preservation of culturally significant sites. This role requires a strong understanding of architectural history and techniques, as well as excellent project management skills. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for preserving cultural heritage and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on historical buildings and structures to determine their significance and condition
- Prepare preservation plans that meet conservation standards and adhere to client's goals
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, engineers, and other professionals to develop preservation strategies
- Oversee construction or renovation projects to ensure compliance with preservation plans
- Monitor project progress and make any necessary adjustments
- Manage project budgets and timelines effectively
- Maintain accurate records of project details, including design changes and expenses
- Conduct site visits to assess building conditions and provide recommendations for maintenance or repair
- Keep up-to-date with current trends in preservation techniques and materials
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years experience in architectural conservation or historic preservation
- Strong knowledge of architectural history, styles, materials, and techniques used in historic buildings
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
- Proven experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and managing contractors
- Ability to conduct thorough research using various resources such as archives, books, maps, etc.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations related to historic preservation (if applicable)
- Attention to detail and ability to spot potential issues or risks during project planning stages
- Passion for preserving cultural heritage
