Typesetter
The typesetter is responsible for formatting and arranging text and images in a visually appealing and readable manner. They play a crucial role in the production of books, magazines, newspapers, and other printed materials.
Responsibilities:
- Read and understand design briefs, manuscripts, and other materials to determine the layout requirements
- Select appropriate fonts, sizes, and styles for headings, subheadings, and body text
- Arrange text and images according to the layout design using typesetting software such as Adobe InDesign
- Adjust line spacing, margins, hyphenation, and other typographical elements for optimal readability
- Collaborate with designers, editors, and printers to ensure the final product meets quality standards
- Proofread layouts for spelling, grammar, and layout errors before sending them for printing
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and software updates to continuously improve skills and techniques
Requirements:
- Proven work experience as a typesetter or in a similar role
- Proficiency in typesetting software such as Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress
- Excellent attention to detail with an eye for design aesthetics
- Strong portfolio showcasing previous work experience with various typesetting projects
- Knowledge of typography principles and best practices
- Good time-management skills to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members from different departments
