Best Online Finance Jobs For Indians Abroad.

In accordance with the sheer size of its population, India has long been known to send emigrants all over the world. And while the spread of Indian expats slowed down somewhat during the worst years of the Covid-19 pandemic, data shows that the number of Indians going abroad rose by 137% in 2022 alone. Between January and November of that year, in fact, some 1.8 crore Indian citizens are said to have at least traveled outside the country, with some ultimately settling elsewhere. That’s compared to roughly 77.2 lakh Indians who left the country in all of 2021, according to the MHA Bureau of Immigration.

It has often been reported that many Indians who venture abroad end up moving to foreign countries for the sake of their careers. Today, however, this can be a different concept than in years past. Previously, an Indian moving abroad for the sake of their career would typically be taking a specific position at a company requiring in-person work. Now, Indians –– like others all around the world –– are often able to move wherever they’d most prefer to live while still pursuing intriguing career opportunities in remote, online settings.

In a previous post discussing the evolution of remote work, we noted that these kinds of opportunities were already on the rise in the late 2010s but expanded by necessity during the pandemic. It was also pointed out that some of the fields in which Indians could most easily seek remote work in were IT, marketing, copywriting, video editing, and web development. In this piece, however, we want to address the fact that finance has joined the club. Various surveys in recent years have shown that more remote financial jobs are emerging, and this makes for a number of exciting opportunities for Indians seeking online jobs abroad.

The following are just some of the best online finance jobs available to Indian expats.

Financial Analyst

The title “financial analyst” covers a wide range of potential responsibilities. Broadly speaking, however, a financial analyst is a professional who uses comprehensive knowledge of banking, financial strategy, and investment to advise clients. Those clients can be individuals or entire companies, and any given one may require a specific kind of analyst. Some clients, for example, may be seeking input on investing decisions; others might want in-depth research on the financial implications of business decisions. Regardless of the specifics, however, a financial analyst in the 2020s can typically operate remotely and online. An experienced professional in this role can expect to earn upwards of USD $100,000 (or more than INR 8.33 million).

Investment Portfolio Manager

For Indians who have a particularly keen interest in the investment side of the finance world, the job of Investment Portfolio Manager is definitely one to bear in mind. This role is more or less just what it sounds like. It entails oversight of investments in financial securities (and other assets) on behalf of either a company or an individual. The day-to-day specifics of this job will vary depending on clients and their goals and preferences regarding their investments. Some managers will be heavily involved in day-to-day management; some will take a long-term approach. In any case, this is a job that will pay an experienced candidate as much as USD $130,000 (INR 10.83 million) or more. There are also some arrangements in which a portfolio manager will earn a commission on investment gains.

Day Trader

While it is similar in some respects to managing an investment portfolio, day trading is more of an independent remote job option. This is a position in which an individual with a talent for investment trades assets on a daily basis with their own capital. Many choose to enter a career in day trading with the same stock market securities that dominate portfolio management. Others, however, opt for alternative markets that have become more readily accessible and which favor a day-trading approach. Most notably, digital platforms today have made it a simpler practice to trade forex online, buying and selling currencies to profit from changes and differences. This requires close attention, but with platforms offering instant withdrawals and tools imposing limits on gains and losses, savvy day traders can capitalize on even small currency shifts. Somewhat similarly, some day traders today also look to the crypto markets, where day-to-day fluctu ation can also yield profits. Exchanges in which crypto is traded, however, tend to be somewhat less stocked with tools and protections. In any case, a day trader doesn’t work for a traditional salary but can earn every bit as much as anyone else in finance with the right approach.

Economist

Moving away from investment-related jobs, it is also possible to work online as an economist. This will sound to some like a vague descriptor more than an actual job. It may sound to others like more of an academic position (and indeed, those who are talented in finance can certainly become teaching economists –– though this is not usually a remote position). In reality, however, being an “economist” is a very real job and one that largely entails developing and maintaining expertise on economic conditions. Someone approaching this kind of job should be skilled in mathematics and data analysis and should also have a sharp understanding of what drives and affects financial news. This skillset is used to assess and project financial markets, typically on behalf of businesses, investors, or even government entities. An economist working online today can expect to earn anywhere from USD $90,000 (INR 7.5 million) to more than USD $100,000 (INR 8.33 million).

Financial Manager

This is one of the most common and straightforward online roles in finance an Indian abroad can hope to find. To work as a financial manager is to be responsible for overseeing the budget, tax implications, credit, and business developments of the company that employs you. Essentially, the title is literal: Someone in this role manages any and all finance-related matters associated with a company’s business. It’s a role most companies of a certain size ultimately need to fill, and thus, one that candidates seeking jobs will often see listings for. As of now, you can expect to earn something close to USD $120,000 (INR 10 million) or more working as a financial manager for a medium-to-large company, even working remotely and online.

These are not the only online jobs one can hope to find in finance abroad. They are some of the most common and well-paying options, however, and together, they demonstrate the variety of work available to those with talent for financial management, market analysis, and investment.
