Experience:
Took part in voluntary work experience at Balfour Beatty Heathrow airport, terminal 2, for a week. Attended
important meetings with project managers. Also had a go at some problem-solving using a copy of a blueprint
of a building to calculate the area and perimeter and see what we can fit in the floor of that building.
Furthermore, we went to some building sites around terminal 4, to see what the plan of each project was. This
was a very immersive experience and really increased my confidence working with other colleagues in an
engineering environment, which I felt very comfortable in.
Education:
I am in my final year of BEng Civil Engineering at the University of Surrey and i am expected to receive a 2:2 outcome
Skills:
Communication and Teamwork - I have undertaken many group projects in my modules. Which has heavily
increased my communication and team working skills, for example as a group we had to build a bridge out of
cardboard and string only where it had to hold up to 10kg or else it would fail, so communicating different
bridge designs and putting all the ideas together was crucial to help pass the strength test.
. Problem Solving – This skill was demonstrated through using many instruments, as there was always
something off with my readings using the instruments, so I had to make sure everything was correctly set up
and adjust the set up if it was not correct. I used instruments such as levelling, total station kits, hydraulic jump
apparatus, pipe surge and water hammer apparatus and many more.
. Motivation and Perseverance - I completed my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, which was one of the
hardest activities I took part in at the time as I was quite young and I had to live and travel by myself for a few
days, which took some dedication.
Languages - I am advanced in speaking the language Dari/Farsi
Additionally:
am actively seeking a job in the field of civil engineering, driven by the desire to immerse myself in a
professional setting that offers both interest and challenge. Now, as I transition from a student to a
professional in the field, I am eager to establish a lasting network of industry experts, mentors, and colleagues.
