I am an enthusiastic, self-motivated, adaptive and fast-learning psychiatrist with proven interpersonal skills. I am passionate about psychiatry and open to enhancing my knowledge and clinical skills to provide the best quality services to mental health service users. My training and work experience has been vast and enriching, with a first-hand experience in Drug Intoxications and Addiction Treatments, Acute Care and Emergency Psychiatric Settings working both at in-patient and community levels, Rehabilitations, General Adult Psychiatric Unit, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit, Geriatrics Unit, Consultation-Liaison and Perinatal Psychiatry Unit. I am directly involved in taking detailed history, mental status examinations, risk assessments, and formulate my patients to arrive at a diagnosis. I engage in a robust management plan of patients in a multidisciplinary team (MDT), comprising of myself as the psychiatrist, the clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, mental health nurse, occupational therapist, social worker and the pharmacist. Family and care givers, school teachers and significant others could form part of the team depending on the type of case being managed. I also partake in research work, conducting clinical audits, teaching junior residents and medical students. Currently, I am the co-chair academic committee at Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Maiduguri (The only Federal Tertiary Psychiatric Facility in the whole of North-East Nigeria serving six states and neighboring countries of Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroon). Sometimes, we see patients coming from as far as Sudan. The institution receives quite a huge turnover of patients, being the largest in the region, hence the opportunity to see and manage a wide range of mental health conditions cut across-board.
