Experience:
• Beginning the shift by checking on assigned patients, by assisting the healthcare staff at the hospital in providing patient care, like monitoring patients, their vital signs, learning how to and administering medication, providing assistance on medical hygiene.
• Maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff, while adhering to infection control protocols (cleaning, disinfecting, checking on the oxygen machines, carrying, cleaning and feeding patients).
• Assist patients with preparing to sleep, including providing meals, medication and a comfortable sleeping environment.
• Collecting of specimens for laboratory testing as required.
• Provided emotional support to patients, by helping them in alleviating loneliness, any kind of anxiety and for patients who did not have families or were abandoned.
• Gaining hands on experience on various clinical settings such as, medical-clinical units, emergency, outpatient clinics and morgue unit.
• Gaining exposure on other medical specialties, such as family medicine, pathology, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine.
• Obtain medical history of patients and making physical examination of the patients, document the information on patient files and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Informing/educating patients before they are discharged, guide them on their medication, how to deal with infections etc.
• Shift handover at the end of the day or night and by providing detailed reports to the incoming staff, including any patient updates, and concerns etc.
• I was able to gain key insights in the healthcare field and roles on how to provide quality patient care in a busy setting.
