The objective of this program is for students to improve their speaking, listening, reading, writing, and basic computer skills so that they are better able to communicate as parents, workers, and community members. ֍ September 2014 – March 2015 Lane College ESL Program ESL Teacher Lane Community College, Eugene, OR § Taught the highest level, pre-credit ESL class in writing and grammar. The primary goal was to improve academic writing skills, through practice with various college-level research papers and essays. Most of these students went on to take credit-classes at LCC or at the University of Oregon. ֍ September 2011 – April 2012 American English Institute ESL Teacher University of Oregon, Eugene, OR § Taught English language reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, and oral-skills classes to university ESL students, with an emphasis on academic reading and writing. The goal of the program was to prepare non-native speakers for U.S. university success. ֍ October 2008 – September 2011 Hawaii English Language Program (HELP) ESL Teacher University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI § Generally taught two or three classes per academic term. This program was essentially designed to increase the students’ English proficiency to levels appropriate for college-level study in the U.S. Focused primarily on academic writing and oral proficiency, though all skills were covered. ֍ September 2001 - July 2002 Gondar College of Teacher Education Teacher Trainer for IFESH Teachers for Africa Program (Volunteer) Gondar, Ethiopia § Responsible for training large classes (upwards of 100 students per class) of 1st and 2nd year college students. These students eventually became primary-school English teachers in Ethiopia. Offered additional workshops/instruction in teaching methodology, communicative approaches, etc. Supervised practice teaching. § Proposal writing to multiple organizations, requesting donations of vehicles, computers, textbooks, funding, etc. for Gondar College. All proposals were either accepted or last known to be under consideration. Acted as the College’s representative at various workshops around the country. ֍ May 1999 – May 2001 Santis Educational Services Head Teacher/ English Department Supervisor Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia § Responsible for managing and coordinating all English language classes. Duties included teacher training, curriculum design, and supervision of up to five teachers. Taught between 25 and 30 weekly contact hours. Assisted in CALL classes. Helped increase monthly class hours from fewer than 200 to over 600. Clients included UNDP, Peace Corps, VSO, MIAT (the national airline), Mongolian parliament members, and national celebrities. ֍ June 1997 – June 1998 Executive English Programs (EEP) English Language Teacher Jakarta, Indonesia § Instructed students from all age and ability levels, ranging from those without prior English up to advanced TOEFL and free-conversation classes. Emphasized speaking, grammar clarity, and enjoyable English-language activities. Classes included English for Children, English for Teenagers, and TOEFL Preparation. ֍ December 1995 – December 1996 Shim-bun Language Institute English Language Teacher Pusan, South Korea § Taught English daily to students ranging from early elementary school children to adults. Small classes and interactive materials were designed for optimum conversation practice. ֍
