Handymen - Working specialties
Experience:
Elizabeth has gained progressive hands-on surveying experience through two field attachments with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), completed in 2020 and 2024, respectively. During her 2020 attachment, undertaken while pursuing her Diploma in Land Surveying, she conducted topographic surveys using GNSS equipment, assisted in engineering surveys including setting out of road centerlines, edges, and drain inverts, performed levelling works, participated in quality control of earthworks and site material investigations, executed cadastral surveys for boundary re-establishment and road reserve definition, prepared maps using CAD software, ArcGIS, and Civil 3D, and participated in material and laboratory testing including compaction tests, Atterberg limits tests, and sieve analysis. In her 2024 attachment, completed as part of her degree industrial training, she took on greater responsibility working as a surveyor on a full 3-kilometer road project from start to finish, operating Total Stations and GPS/GNSS equipment for precise spatial data collection, participating in setting out and pegging of road reserves, supporting data processing and reduction of field observations, preparing survey reports, and collaborating with engineering and construction teams to ensure accurate positioning for road construction activities. Across both placements, Elizabeth was formally commended by KURA's Assistant Director of Survey and Mapping for being punctual, hardworking, dedicated, and willing to learn.
Education:
I hold a Bachelor of Technology in Surveying Technology with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) from The Technical University of Kenya, graduating in November 2024, where I studied engineering surveying, cadastral mapping, geo-positioning systems, geospatial information systems, digital photogrammetry, remote sensing, cartography, land law, highway and transportation engineering, and construction management. Prior to my degree, I completed a Diploma in Land Surveying from the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) in Nairobi, Kenya, where I also completed a 3-month Short Course in Land Surveying covering Surveying Practice across levelling, topographic, cadastral, engineering, and GNSS methods; AutoCAD for Land Surveyors, Introduction to GIS and Cartography, and Introduction to Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. I sat and passed the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) examinations, attaining strong grades in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Cartography, and Cadastral Surveying and Land Law. I also hold a Certificate of Achievement in Computer Operations with Distinction from the Vision Institute of Professionals, awarded in March 2018, covering MS Office applications, data entry, and digital documentation. Together, my qualifications reflect a technically strong, practically grounded, and well-rounded professional fully equipped for a demanding surveying career in construction and infrastructure environments.
Skills:
I am proficient in the operation and maintenance of a wide range of surveying instruments, including Theodolites (optical and digital), Total Stations, GPS/GNSS receivers for static, RTK and kinematic surveys, dumpy levels, Auto Levels, digital levels, measuring tapes, ranging rods, and survey accessories. My experience in conducting topographic, cadastral, engineering, hydrographic, and GNSS surveys, as well as setting out, levelling, boundary re-establishment, and road reserve definition. My technical software skills include AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, ERDAS, and the Land Potential Knowledge System, equipping her with strong capabilities in spatial data processing, map production, and road alignment design.
In addition to my core surveying competencies, I have practical exposure to civil construction workflows, including quality control of earthworks, site material investigations, borrow pit investigations, and material laboratory testing covering compaction tests, Atterberg limits tests, and sieve analysis. Iam also proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access, and is experienced in survey report writing, field data documentation, and digital data management.
Beyond my technical abilities, I also bring strong professional attributes, including excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams. Am highly organized, results-oriented, and capable of managing complex and fast-changing field environments. Iam physically fit and well-adapted to demanding outdoor fieldwork conditions and have demonstrated the ability to establish priorities and deliver accurate results under pressure. Iam a proactive and committed professional with a genuine passion for geomatics and a strong drive for continuous professional growth.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Availability
I am immediately available to commence employment and am ready to begin contributing to projects without delay. Having successfully completed my Bachelor of Technology in Surveying Technology in November 2024 and my industrial attachment at the Kenya Urban Roads Authority, I have no outstanding academic or professional commitments that would affect my start date. I am fully prepared to undergo any required onboarding, orientation, or training processes and am eager to transition into a full-time professional surveying role as soon as possible.
Willingness to Travel and Relocate
I am fully willing and prepared to travel extensively and relocate as required. Having gained my field experience through active outdoor construction and road infrastructure projects, I am well accustomed to working across different site environments and adapting quickly to new locations and project conditions. I understand that a travelling surveyor role demands flexibility, physical endurance, and the ability to operate effectively away from home base for extended periods, and I embrace these demands wholeheartedly. I am committed to being wherever the project requires me to be and view the opportunity to work across diverse project sites as one of the most exciting aspects of a field-based surveying career.
Career Goals
My primary career goal is to grow into a highly skilled and experienced geomatics and survey professional, continuously building on the strong technical foundation I have developed through my academic training and practical field experience. I am passionate about applying my surveying and geomatics knowledge to real-world infrastructure and construction projects, and am eager to deepen my expertise across engineering surveys, cadastral surveying, topographic mapping, and construction layout. I aim to develop advanced proficiency in industry-leading survey technologies and software platforms, expanding my capabilities in GPS/GNSS systems, Total Station operations, GIS, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and CAD-based design tools.
In the medium term, I aspire to take on increased responsibility within survey and construction teams, contributing not only as a skilled field surveyor but also as a reliable technical resource in data processing, report preparation, and spatial data management. I am committed to continuous professional development and intend to pursue further certifications and training opportunities that will strengthen my competency and broaden my expertise across different surveying disciplines and project environments.
In the long term, my ambition is to grow into a senior surveying professional and eventually a survey team leader or project manager, where I can mentor and inspire the next generation of surveyors, particularly young women entering the geomatics field. I am driven by a deep passion for the profession and a genuine desire to contribute meaningfully to infrastructure development, land management, and the built environment throughout my career.
Yours faithfully,
