Additionally:
I first became interested in primary teaching through working with a local After School Club,
something which I have done since I was 13. This made me realise I enjoyed working with children from the age of 5 right up to 11. This helped me to learn that the teaching as a career choice was the path for me. My subsequent three-year BA Early Years and Childhood Studies course at Manchester Metropolitan University has served further to fire my enthusiasm and prepared me effectively to take responsibility for my own class. This has been through the work experience I completed as a part of my course. I then started my teacher training at Manchester Metropolitan University.
I believe that it is my role as a teacher to facilitate learning and encourage all children develop both academically and personally as part of a community in their educational setting. In order to succeed, it is imperative that realistic, individual goals and targets are set regularly to reflect the delivery of the curriculum and to make classroom subjects relevant to everyday life and challenge children to work to their full potential.
During my time on my initial teacher training course, I have worked synonymously with my mentors, observed best practice and followed advice from a variety of practitioners to improve my own practice. Through this, I have greatly improved upon my teaching practice, in particular my strategies for behaviour management, target tracking for children as individuals and my ability to incorporate cross-curricular links within lessons.
I strive to build strong relationships and rapport the children in my class and across the setting and believe it is imperative to build equally strong relationships with their parents and with all staff across school. I have been enriched personally and learnt much from their diverse backgrounds, cultures and needs. I hold high expectations for each and every child in my classes and have realised the benefits of thorough planning and organisational skills to accommodate the differing rates of student progressions. I am willing to push children’s learning to the best it can be, no matter where their starting point is, to allow all children to thrive and develop as lifelong learners.
I am continuously reflecting upon my practice and challenging myself to try new strategies to improve the outcomes for the children in my classes. I also enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues across schools to expand my skills and interests. I have thoroughly enjoy my time teacher training and I am excited to start my teaching career. I am enthusiastic and motivated with a strong work ethic and I am willing to push children’s learning to the best it can be, no matter where their starting point is, to allow all children to thrive and develop as lifelong learners.
