Handymen - Working specialties
Experience:
Worked under the Asset Integrity Management department which is responsible for the safe and continued operation of the plant. As part of the integrity management team, I had the following responsibilities:
• Preparation and upload of historical inspection data to support workpack development for piping and equipment inspections as part of the RBI program.
• Calculation of CONC and Tmin values for piping systems based upon ASME B31.3 for inclusion into the inspection workpacks for anomaly flags.
• Raising technical queries when data sets result in discrepancies with established corrosion rates and identification of data errors which result in these errors.
• Supporting development of written schemes of examination based upon risk-based inspection (RBI) output and establishing most appropriate methods of inspection in collaboration with senior integrity engineer.
• Review of new construction isometrics against piping class to ensure materials of fabrication are in line with requirements
• Multiple site visits to witness various inspection activities and techniques including visual inspection methods, Dye Penetrant, UTSM & PAUT methods.
• Gained good understanding of SNOC processing by means of the Operator Training Manuals and site visits
• Developed good understanding of Asset Integrity Management process and supporting elements for Pressure Systems & Pipelines
• Developed basic knowledge of ASME PCC-2 repair of pressure equipment and piping with particular emphasis on Part 4 relating to Nonmetallic Composite Repair Systems.
• Developed understanding of Fitness for Service assessments in accordance with API-579 and ASME B31.G
• Familiarization with API570 Piping inspection code and undertook site inspection activities with Authorized Inspector
• Support to Deethanizer Column Integrity issues – Identification of local column fabrication companies and site survey for lifting feasibility.
Received training on the following subjects:
• Asset Integrity Management Process. • Pipeline Integrity Management.
• Risk based Inspection. • Corrosion and Chemical Management.
Education:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from American University of Sharjah (AUS), United Arab Emirates (CGPA 3.72/4.00, graduated Spring 2022).
University Senior Design project: Portable Piezoelectric Flag for Wind Energy Harvesting (Alternative Energy Solution)
The product is a sustainable system which resembles a flag and can generate 225 mW and store this energy in a battery for later use at wind speeds as low as 5.7 m/s. Objectives of the project were as follows:
• Piezoelectric materials capture unused mechanical energy such as wind flow and turn it into useful electrical energy.
• Extensive literature review which involved computer-aided design (CAD) and generating mathematical models to verify the validity of the results.
• Creating an experimental setup to optimize different determining factors of the product to achieve maximum efficacy.
• Creating and optimizing an energy harvesting circuit that will allow for maximum power generation, harvesting, and storing unused electrical energy.
• Utilization of modern manufacturing methods such as 3D printing with recyclable plastic to get consistent results and to adhere to the UAE’s vision of clean and sustainable manufacturing methods.
The achievements of the project include:
• First place winner of AUS mechanical senior design project competition Spring 2022
• First to propose an innovative and portable system for piezoelectric wind energy harvesting
• Special invitation from Pulse 95 Radio to talk about our project
• AUS CEN Undergraduate Research Grant.
There is still a lot of potential for this product; however, time and financial constraints limited our capabilities.
