Additionally:
I have been an active member of a healthcare team, assisting qualified Nurses and other healthcare professionals with the provision of clinical and personal care to various kinds of patients/clients (adults, children and the aged), within both inpatients and outpatients settings. Making use with very little resources to provide exceptional care to patients of all ages has given me so much confidence to do the same wherever I find myself. My expertise over the years, has enabled me improve my knowledge and maintain my skills while providing optimum care for patients. I am a highly motivated and dedicated Health Care Assistant committed to safeguarding the medical needs and well being of patients. I have always put my patients first. I make sure I provide adequate person centred care. I always strive to improve the quality of patients am privileged to care for, especially those suffering from different illnesses, supporting them through continuing professional development and communicating effectively while ensuring compliance with policies and guidelines. My current role requires me to prioritize a busy work load. I do this by creating a plan at the start of each shift, following a discussion with the rest of the team during handover which works very effectively. I assist patients with daily activities of living such as, bathing, washing, feeding, toileting, dressing, cleaning and other needs. While doing this, I ensure their dignity is preserved and as well, encouraging them to be independent as much as they can. I monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, glucose levels, weight, and fluid balance, reporting adverse findings to the senior colleagues. I type materials, complete and verify forms and also maintain the general filing system. In addition, I always ensure that all information is recorded in the patients’ files, and is up to date. I possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. I make sure I speak clearly, provide the right amount of information to my patients and also ask the right question at the right time. My excellent communication skills have helped me to deal with challenging situations, which has been of utmost benefit to my patients. For instance, I have a patient who got so angry and aggressive when he got to know about the replacement of his medication. He became so aggressive and was assigned to me. The first thing I did was to listen to him and find out why he was angry. After hearing from him, I immediately emphasized with him by putting myself in his situation and showing that I care, he was able to calm down. The next thing I did was to lower my voice and explain the situation to him and why it was necessary that his medication had to be replaced. He eventually calmed down and happily accepted to replace his medication. I always build personal connections with my patients, and this helps them feel safe and comfortable, and they always appreciate me for being caring and friendly. Also I make sure that I inform the Nurses about any concerns from the patients. I have good written, verbal and non verbal communication skills. One of the things that make me a good verbal communicator is the fact that I am a good listener. I am also very good in writing. I write very clearly and concisely. When communicating, I always think before I speak, I pay attention to my body language, I use concise language, I am mindful of my tone, I listen attentively and speak with confidence. My effective time management skill has enabled me to assign specific time slots to activities as per their importance, both on duty and off duty. The best way I carry out effective time management during my working is, I make a to do list immediately I come to work, this helps me to be more productive and keeps me intentional on the work for the day. The next thing I will do is to prioritize, that is, I will rank my tasks according to the order of importance for instance, I will check each patient's file and study their case to know who requires urgent attention. I will attend to them first, then down to those with minor cases. The third way I manage my time is being focused. I make sure I do away with destructions at work place. For instance I do not use my mobile phone while at work so I can be focused and carry out my duties diligently. Lastly, I delegate to my core workers or other staff members, and this is where team playing comes in. The healthcare system cannot survive without collaboration. I love working in a team and contribute actively to team handovers and meetings, because I understand the importance of team work in obtaining set goals. Something I am really passionate about is, valuing the contribution of my colleagues. So I always make sure I thank them after a shift. I think this is really important for team support and morale. In my last appraisal, my supervisor commented that I had played a vital part of motivating the team during a busy time. Through out my work, I have always understood the importance of instructions and written procedures. Following instructions is one of my core responsibilities as a Nursing Assistant, because it guides my day to day activities, it reduces mistakes at the work place and also keeps patients and staff safe. I am sensitive to patient consent, and I believe that every patient should be treated with dignity. I possess basic IT skills for instance, Microsoft word, Microsoft excel and Microsoft power-point. It is my belief that everyone has a part to play in service delivery and identifying better ways of working. A few months back, I suggested that we re-arrange the stock room after assessing that it was a health risk to staff. I was assigned this responsibility, and received positive feedback from colleagues afterwards. As a Nursing Assistant with 3 years of experience, I have developed various strength that would be a benefit to this role. I have the ability to work under pressure without compromising patient safety and quality care. I am organized and able to work competently without direct supervision. Prioritization of duties and time management has helped me immensely. I am highly flexible, enthusiastic and a critical thinker who is always willing to learn and can adapt various working conditions. I have a valid driving license and a diploma in clinical medicine and community Health. I have also completed the 15 care courses and obtained a care certificate. I am open to more training and growth. I have passed my IELTS and all the necessary documents are available for your review. Thank you for taking time to read my application. I hope I have been able to convey my passion and commitment to patient/client care. Kind regards, Brenda Winnie
