CURRENT OCCUPATION Consultant, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry May 2023- present Flourishing Minds Clinic, Lusail, Qatar Community-based Mental Health Center PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCES Consultant, Child and Adolescent Neurology and Psychiatry September 2016- April 2023 Child and Adolescent Neurology and Psychiatry Division, Monfalcone (GO), Italy (2nd level CAHMS and Neurodevelopmental Pediatric Service, reference Centre for early diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders). This Child Mental Health Service is part of the training network of the University of Trieste (north-east of Italy): actively involved in clinical training and clinical tutoring activities. Extensive experience in evaluation and treatment of Developmental pediatrics (neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsies, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, genetic disorders with neurologic impairment) and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (early onset psychosis, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, mood disorders, social withdrawal). Interest in themes related to child and adolescent psychiatry: between September 2016 and July 2017 I participated to a master course in adolescent psychiatry (“Adolescenti in crisi”, Istituto di Analisi dei Codici affettivi “Il Minotauro) in Padua, Italy. The School of Psychotherapy that promoted the master course (“Il Minotauro”, Milan) has long term experience in clinical work with adolescents and represents a reference in social media use and internet addictions in adolescence. Since substance use in adolescence represents a significant public health problem (more than 50% of substance use cases start during adolescence) I daily dealt with cases of substance abuse among the patients that are referred to the CAMHS where I have been working. I actively collaborated with the local Reference Centre for Substance Use (Dipartimento delle Dipendenze), with dedicated multi professional and integrated treatment paths for adolescents, to treat their psychiatric comorbidities and support their parents and families. After COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent great increase of mental health and social problems among adolescents and young adults, a significant increase in internet addiction was observed. I actively participated to a study-group led by the Italian National Society for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (SINPIA), dedicated to social withdrawal. As behavioral addictions, substance use related to covid-pandemic would be an interesting subject to investigate all over the world. Between march and may 2018 I took part to a course dedicated to adolescent psychiatric psychopharmacology (“Psicofarmacoterapia dello sviluppo”, IRCCS “Stella Maris”, Calambrone (Pi),marzo-maggio 2018). I have extensive experience in team-work in multi-professional team , with provision of integrated interventions (psychological and pharmacological support, educative and psycho-social interventions). Previous clinical experiences in inpatient settings, both during residency (University of Turin, Burlo Garofolo Institute for Paediatric Research,Trieste) and during the later years of work (Hospitals of Udine and Monfalcone). I have strong interest in themes regarding transcultural psychiatry (recent course “Etnpsichiatria e clinica transculturale”, Centro Studi Sagara , Pisa 19-21-21.11.2020) and Global Mental Health. I consider integrated clinical approaches, respectful of cultural and religious different backgrounds, as a fundamental part of clinical treatment in mental health disorders. I completed in spring 2022 the course “Introduction to Global Mental Health” organized by University of Aberdeen in Scotland. During residency I worked in the reference Children Hospital for the region (3rd level hospital), that provides services for complex cases in psychiatry and neurology for the entire area (Trieste, north-east of Italy). My medical activity has been focused mainly on Autism Spectrum Disease and evaluation of early neurodevelopment, early identification and genetic causes of cerebral palsy, for the neuro-developmental part. I developed a clinical research (pilot study) as final residency paper, with the objective of clarify the role of genetic and inflammatory factors on the pathogenesis of preterm birth and development of cerebral palsy. Special focus on the role of Mannose Binding Lectin-2 (MBL-2).
