I am a Registered Nurse, I acquired my degree from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital which is a well-known and reputable higher institution
of learning and Health Institution in Nigeria. I found the experience of nursing patients with different health conditions very satisfying as I enjoy helping to improve patients quality of life. I find it outstanding that your organisation is passionate about the role it plays in delivering quality care to patient, and its support for health care providers. I am confident that my skills would be beneficial to the organisation.
I am currently employed in a health care facility and I have received positive feedbacks from mentors, students nurses and patients about nursing, management and leadership skills.
Through my clinical rotations in several hospitals, I have had the opportunity to work in different settings which includes: Stroke Rehibition, Acute Medical Unit, Elective Orthopaedic, Renal unit, Oncology/Haematology Suite, District Nurse, Intensive care unit and Respiratory ward. I have gained and utilised critical thinking skills which I incorporated to practice in order to perform quality patient centred-care. However, my experience as a staff nurse and student nurse has increase my deep awareness regarding cultural sensitivity to provide care for patients by developing a plan of care.
During this time, I have been given the opportunity to experience the role of a charge Nurse under supervision which has involved delegating to staff and students and prioritising the care of patients,
I have had to deal with a variety of situations such as being vasovagal, cardiac arrest, falling patient, dealing with patient’s relatives, self- discharging patients and violence patient. Which was resolved successfully, i also have experience of organising safe discharges, hospital transfers, co-ordinating patient transport, communicating with community nursing, doctors, occupational therapist.
I have also had the opportunity to gained and maintain skills in areas such as medicines management, (including IV drugs and controlled drugs), wound management, female catheterisation, monitoring of blood sugar levels, syringe driver. In addition, I have developed an interpersonal skill during my practice. I have been able to demonstrate this by working with multidisciplinary health care team to provide holistic client-focused care, and ensure client well-being, both physical and emotional. An example of this was when I had to deal with a patient who I noticed and has not been himself for a while and confirmed to me that he has depressed due to still being at the hospital for a while. I showed the patient empathy and compassion and with patient consent he was referred to the mental health team. the patient sent a thank you card to the ward and I was informed by the ward manager.
I also enjoy empowering and promoting patients’ health by explaining the importance of smoking cessation, excise, and having balance diet to their health. I have also had the opportunity to attend exercise classes and patient education classes with some of my patients with health conditions and I also used these opportunities to promote any lifestyle changes that will help patients manage their condition more effectively.
I am committed to continuing professional development and I believe that I am a cheerful, flexible and enthusiastic nurse who is always approachable. I am respectful towards all individuals from different cultural backgrounds. I ensure that I follow and adhere to all policies, including health and safety, infection control, data protection and confidentiality.
