The primary responsibilities include:
• Read blueprints or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements
• Selecting the correct type of materials or equipment needed to perform the welding job
• Adopting appropriate welding techniques to meet the weld specifications
• Inspecting completed welds for accuracy and quality using specialised instruments
• Maintaining all tools, machines, equipment, safety gear in good condition at all times
• Meeting production deadlines while adhering to safety standards set by the company

To be successful as a welder you must have knowledge of various welding processes such as arc welding, gas metal arc welding (MIG) and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). You should also have experience with various types of metals such as steel, aluminium and stainless steel. A technical diploma or certificate from an accredited school is preferred but not required. Good communication skills coupled with a keen eye for detail will help you excel in this role.
