Maintenance Technician II (PM Crew) (starting pay rate: $33 p/hr + shift premium pay)

The primary role of the Industrial Maintenance Technician II is to provide competent and effective mechanic maintenance support to Plant operations. The ability to perform work safely meet the needs of Operations execute the maintenance program and comply with all safety codes is paramount. The Industrial Maintenance Technician II must identify troubleshoot and repair problems in mechanical systems that occur in production equipment and processes. He/she must be able to run tests isolate problems remove/replace failed components determine failure modes by studying worn components and perform other tasks as necessary. He/she also performs preventive maintenance and upgrades to mechanical systems. 


The Industrial Maintenance Technician II is recognized as skilled and knowledgeable in mechanical systems and is sought out to support troubleshooting development of process/system improvements preventive and predictive maintenance development and contractor performance monitoring when necessary for new equipment or process systems. He/she is responsible for notifying management if a workplace becomes too hazardous because of some mechanical problem.



Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical systems to include disassembly cleaning reassembly and calibration.

  • Analyzes test results machine error messages and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose equipment problems.

  • Cleans lubricates and adjusts parts equipment and machinery.

  • Disassembles machinery and equipment to remove parts and make repairs.

  • Examines parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.

  • Observes and tests the operation of machinery and equipment in order to diagnose malfunctions using voltmeters and other testing devices.

  • Operates newly repaired machinery and equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.

  • Reassembles equipment after completion of inspections testing or repairs.

  • Repairs and maintains the operating condition of industrial production and processing machinery and equipment.

  • Repairs and replaces broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.

  • Studies blueprints and manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation and operation of machinery.

  • Cuts and welds metal to repair broken metal parts fabricate new parts and assemble new equipment.

  • Demonstrates equipment functions and features to machine operators.

  • Records parts and materials used and order or requisition new parts and materials as necessary.

  • Records repairs and maintenance performed.

  • Enters codes and instructions to program computer-controlled machinery.

  • Sometimes repairs or modifications are performed when blueprints and manufactures specifications are unavailable or incomplete.

  • Applies a wide variety of methods procedures & techniques to lay out install align repair overhaul & maintain various types of machines encompassing mechanical hydraulic pneumatic and electrical systems & operation principles.

  • Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe clean and secure work environment.

  • Communicates with management engineers mechanics and equipment operators to advise them if there are any potential mechanical hazards.

  • Executes the maintenance work schedule as provided by his/her supervisor. Proper execution of the work schedule will require strategic decisions to ensure the scheduled work will be completed within the period scheduled. This effort requires the Lead to be aware of CIP sanitation and other periods of downtime.

  • Keeps the assigned Lead informed of all issues which may affect the operational capability of the area processes and equipment.

  • Seeks assistance from the Lead on the work priority when confusion or more tasks than manpower exists.

  • Examines jobs to be done and determine scope and best way to accomplish the work. Consult with requester maintenance planner and/or supervisor when necessary.

  • Obtains one-lines drawings instructional manuals and special procedures as needed from files or other sources. Make any additional sketches diagrams etc. necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.

  • Ensures the safety needs are given a top priority in operations support and work execution. Some examples are Arc Flash/Shock Hazard safety confined space entry LOTO hazardous materials hand tool safe use etc.

  • Gains complete knowledge of plant's processes and packaging systems.

  • Adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in the execution of the work schedule and operational support. Ensures the shop is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.

  • Protects the integrity and quality of product at all times.

  • Attends meetings and supports continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Recommends equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs.

  • Suggests improvements to all maintenance processes including planning scheduling preventive maintenance corrective maintenance CMMS storeroom operations etc.

  • Promotes the conservation of energy.

  • Maintains close contact with assigned maintenance crew the production supervisor and equipment operators.

  • Keeps the maintenance supervisor and/or manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations and seeks advice on matters outside of their knowledge or authority.

  • Makes recommendations for system improvement.

  • Recommends additions to storeroom stock.

  • Performs other tasks and special assignments as requested by management.


Measurement of Position Performance



The Industrial Maintenance Technician II is measured in the performance of his/her duties and execution of assigned responsibilities by:



  • Ability to do the work of the Industrial Maintenance Technician II position without more than normal supervision.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the operation capabilities and limitations of production equipment and processes. Knowledge of mechanics pneumatics hydraulics electrical systems etc.

  • Knowledge of related electrical mechanical pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

  • Knowledge of safety environmental and security regulations practices and procedures. Knowledge of regulations procedures and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.

  • Skill in troubleshooting mechanical issues.

  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools of the mechanical trade to include a variety of electronic electrical or electromechanical test and measurement equipment.

  • Ability to test time synchronize troubleshoot overhaul repair and install mechanical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as blueprints diagrams and technical orders relating to the mechanical trade.


Position Goals



  • To ensure plant mechanical systems are maintained in a safe and as-new condition.

  • Promote and provide a safe work environment for all assigned personnel in the work area.

  • To ensure that production areas receive prompt efficient and quality service from the maintenance function enabling them to operate at a high level of efficiency.

  • To ensure the maintenance function is given the opportunity to provide production with the service it requires.


Relationships



  • Reports to the Reliability supervisor.

  • Works closely with production supervision.

  • Works closely with maintenance associates.

  • Works closely with stores and purchasing personnel.

  • Supports Engineering with capital improvement projects.

  • Maintains good working relationships with other organizational units in the plant.


Minimum Job Requirements:



  • Meet all basic plant employment criteria to include a good attendance record.

  • Achieve a passing score on the Maintenance Technician test.

  • Has 3 yearsā€™ experience in this role or equivalent vocational and technical training.

  • Must supply own tools per the Maintenance required tool list.

  • Maintenance background which includes hydraulics controls welding electrical PLCā€™s machine tools and pneumatics

  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools.

  • Able to read one-line diagrams blueprints and schematics. 

  • Must be certified on the training plan for this position within 60 working days of start date

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to work on multiple levels such as catwalks ladders etc. and ability to work in extreme temperatures

  • Manual and finger dexterity

  • Ability to visually identify defective parts

  • Ability to hear machine operations sounds to detect defective parts machine failures and changes in speed and other routine running conditions

  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under stressful situations

  • Must be able to work flexible shift schedules up to 12-hour shifts as determined by business need

  • Must be able to use a computer and associated software programs

  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of Quality Service and Cost objectives.
