Librarian for a Multicultural Library in Haur-Fakkan, UAE


Our library in Haur-Fakkan, UAE is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Librarian to join our team. As a multicultural library, we welcome individuals from all backgrounds and nationalities. Therefore, we are specifically looking for Malayalee candidates who are passionate about literature and have an interest in promoting diversity through books.

As a Librarian, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the library including cataloging, circulation, reference services, and collection development. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with our diverse community by organizing events and workshops that promote literacy and cultural exchange.

We are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and has excellent communication skills. You should also have a strong understanding of library systems and technology.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage the library's collection by selecting and acquiring new materials that cater to the diverse interests of our community.
- Develop and maintain relationships with publishers, vendors, and other libraries to expand our collection.
- Organize events such as book clubs, author readings, and workshops to promote reading culture among our community.
- Provide reference services to assist patrons in finding information and resources.
- Maintain accurate records of library materials through proper cataloging procedures.
- Oversee circulation services including checking out/in materials, collecting fines/fees, and maintaining patron records.
- Train staff members on library policies and procedures.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging trends in librarianship and implement new technologies or methods as needed.

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field.
- Fluency in Malayalam preferred but not required.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of library systems such as Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) or Library of Congress Classification (LCC).
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and library database systems.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
