Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Librarian to join our team at a prestigious library in Al-Kuwait, Kuwait. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in library sciences and be familiar with the latest technology and resources for organizing, cataloging, and managing library collections. This is a contract position with the potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities:

- Organize and maintain library collections, including books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and digital resources
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for circulation, reference services, acquisitions, and collection development
- Provide reference services to patrons by answering questions, assisting with research requests, and locating materials
- Collaborate with other librarians to plan and develop programs and events for the community
- Stay current on emerging trends in library sciences and make recommendations for improving services
- Train and supervise library staff on proper procedures for cataloging, shelving, circulation, and customer service
- Develop relationships with vendors to ensure timely acquisition of new materials at competitive prices
- Promote literacy initiatives through outreach programs to schools and community organizations
- Maintain accurate records of library transactions using an integrated library system (ILS)
- Ensure the safety of patrons by enforcing rules of conduct within the library

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Library Science or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a library setting
- Strong knowledge of cataloging systems such as MARC21 or RDA
- Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS) such as Koha or Voyager
- Excellent communication skills in English; fluency in Arabic is a plus
- Customer service oriented with a friendly demeanor towards patrons of all ages and backgrounds
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
- Knowledge of current trends and technologies in library sciences

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master's degree in Library Science or related field
- Experience working with diverse populations and promoting cultural awareness
- Familiarity with digital library resources and online databases
- Experience planning and implementing library programs for children, teens, and adults
- Knowledge of library preservation techniques and best practices
