Containers are lightweight, standalone, and executable packages that contain all the necessary components (code, libraries, dependencies) to run an application.

Docker provides a standardized way to package applications into containers by using operating system-level virtualization technology.

This allows developers to create consistent environments for their applications regardless of the underlying infrastructure or operating system.

Containers also offer better performance compared to traditional virtual machines as they share the host operating system's kernel instead of having their own.

Additionally, Docker provides an easy way to manage and scale applications by allowing developers to spin up multiple instances of the same container on different hosts.

Overall, Docker simplifies the development and deployment process by providing a consistent and efficient way to package and run applications in any environment.<|endoftext|>12 1/2
