Blast Furnace Operator

Operate and monitor blast furnaces used in the production of iron and steel. Monitor equipment and adjust controls to maintain proper temperatures, pressures, and flow of materials. Load materials such as iron ore, coke, and limestone into the furnace. Monitor and adjust the flow of air to regulate combustion. Observe gauges and meters to ensure proper functioning of equipment. Remove slag or impurities from molten metal using tools such as rakes or shovels. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning or replacing parts. This physically demanding job requires working in a hot, noisy, and potentially hazardous environment. Training is provided on-the-job but a basic understanding of industrial processes is preferred.
