Librarian

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Librarian to join our team in Mombasa. As a Librarian, you will be responsible for managing and organizing library resources, assisting library patrons with research and reference inquiries, and promoting literacy and education within the community. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for literature and learning, and a thorough understanding of library systems and procedures. This is a contract position with an attractive salary of 1100$ per month.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization and maintenance of library resources including books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, and digital databases
- Develop and implement policies for cataloging, circulation, borrowing, and returning of materials
- Assist patrons with research inquiries and provide guidance on using library resources effectively
- Plan and promote educational programs such as book clubs, reading challenges, or author visits to encourage literacy and engagement within the community
- Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum needs by providing relevant materials for classroom use
- Train library staff on proper procedures for shelving, inventory management, and customer service
- Keep up-to-date with new technologies in order to improve library services
- Ensure all library materials are properly labeled, cataloged, sorted, and displayed in an organized manner
- Maintain accurate records of library transactions including borrowing history and overdue items

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field
- Previous experience working in a library setting preferred
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficient computer skills including knowledge of database systems
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Passion for literature and promoting literacy within the community
