Preservation Architect
Role Summary:
As a Preservation Architect, you will be responsible for preserving and protecting historical buildings and structures in the city of Porto. Your expertise in architectural preservation, conservation techniques, and historical research will contribute to the preservation of the city’s cultural heritage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on historical buildings and structures to determine their cultural significance and identify appropriate conservation methods
- Develop plans and proposals for restoration or renovation projects, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and preservation guidelines
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other professionals to oversee the implementation of preservation projects
- Conduct regular inspections of historical buildings to identify potential issues or deterioration, and recommend necessary maintenance or repair work
- Prepare reports and documentation on preservation activities, including budgets, timelines, and progress reports
- Stay updated on industry standards and best practices in architectural preservation through attending conferences, workshops, and networking with other professionals
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in architectural preservation or conservation work
- Knowledge of conservation techniques, materials, and technologies used in restoring historic structures
- Strong research skills with the ability to analyze historical documents and drawings
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within deadlines
- Detail-oriented with a strong eye for design aesthetics
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders
- Fluency in Portuguese is preferred
