Library Assistant



The city of Faro is seeking a Library Assistant to work in our public library. This is a contract position, with a salary of 1400$. We are looking for someone without experience who is willing to learn and grow in this role. The ideal candidate will have a passion for books and reading, as well as strong organizational and customer service skills.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the library, including checking books in and out, shelving books, and helping patrons locate materials
- Maintain the organization of the library collection, ensuring that all materials are properly labeled and easily accessible
- Provide excellent customer service to library patrons, answering questions and offering assistance as needed
- Help plan and implement library programs and events for all ages
- Keep the library clean and tidy, including dusting shelves and wiping down surfaces
- Assist with inventory management by keeping track of new materials received and removing outdated or damaged items from circulation
- Collaborate with other library staff members to develop new services and improve existing ones

Requirements:
- Must be a female candidate (as requested by employer)
- Must be able to obtain a free visa (if needed) and travel to Faro for the duration of the contract
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Library Science preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Basic computer skills for cataloging books and assisting patrons with technology use

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) on a contract basis. The employee will have access to all employee benefits offered by the city of Faro. The work schedule may include some evenings and weekends based on library programming needs.
