Librarian for Indian Community in Mombasa
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Librarian to join our team and serve the Indian community in Mombasa. As a Librarian, you will be responsible for managing our library and its resources, providing assistance to library users, and promoting literacy and education within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, catalog, and maintain the library's collection of books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials
- Create a user-friendly system for locating and borrowing materials
- Assist library users in finding resources and conducting research
- Plan and implement programs to promote literacy among the community members
- Manage the library's budget and make necessary purchases of new materials
- Ensure that all library equipment is in good working condition
- Keep accurate records of library usage and statistics for reporting purposes
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field
- Minimum of 2 years experience working as a librarian
- Knowledge of cataloging systems and database management
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team
Additional Requirements:
- Must be an Indian national with a valid biometric passport
- Fluent in English (knowledge of local languages is an added advantage)
- Comfortable working full time including weekends (Saturdays are half days)
- Experience working with Indian communities preferred
