Senior Librarian
The role of a Senior Librarian is to manage and oversee the daily operations of a library, ensuring that all resources are properly maintained and accessible to patrons. This position requires strong organizational and leadership skills, as well as a deep knowledge of library systems and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and train library staff members, including librarians, assistants, and volunteers
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the library's collection, circulation, and services
- Maintain an inventory of books, periodicals, digital resources, and other materials in the library's collection
- Catalogue new materials and ensure that they are properly shelved and organized
- Assist patrons with locating materials and using library resources effectively
- Plan and promote educational programs, events, and workshops for library patrons
- Collaborate with schools, community organizations, and other institutions to expand the reach of the library's services
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in librarianship
- Manage the library's budget, including purchasing new materials as needed
- Ensure that the library is clean, organized, and welcoming to all visitors
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- At least 5 years of experience working in a library setting
- Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing staff members
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Knowledge of cataloguing standards such as MARC format
- Familiarity with library software systems (e.g. Koha)
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with others
- Excellent communication skills with a customer service mindset
Salary: $1200/month
