Librarian - Cataloging and Metadata Specialist

The Cataloging and Metadata Specialist is responsible for organizing and managing library materials, ensuring accurate cataloging and metadata information, and maintaining the integrity of the library's collection. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills, knowledge of library cataloging standards, and experience with metadata creation and management. The ideal candidate will have a passion for books and information organization, as well as excellent communication skills to work collaboratively with library staff.

Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and classify library materials according to established cataloging standards
- Create accurate metadata records for library materials in various formats
- Maintain the integrity of the library's collection by regularly reviewing and updating catalog records
- Collaborate with other librarians to continuously improve cataloging practices
- Train and supervise library staff in proper cataloging procedures
- Stay current with emerging trends in cataloging and metadata creation

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field
- Minimum of 3 years experience in cataloging or metadata creation in a library setting
- Extensive knowledge of Library of Congress Classification System, Dewey Decimal Classification System, or other relevant systems
- Proficiency in using integrated library systems (ILS) for cataloging purposes
- Familiarity with MARC format and other metadata standards such as Dublin Core or MODS
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with diverse team members

Location: Bergen, Norway (Preference for Norwegian or EU citizens)

Salary: Starting at $1300 per month (negotiable based on experience)
