Librarian in Bungoma, Kenya


We are in search of a highly organized and detail-oriented Librarian to join our team at the Bungoma Public Library. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literature and information, as well as excellent research and communication skills. As a Librarian, you will be responsible for maintaining and organizing the library's collection, assisting patrons with research and reference inquiries, and managing library programs and events.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an organized system for cataloging library materials
- Monitor the condition of library materials and make recommendations for repairs or replacements
- Assist patrons with locating resources and conducting research
- Create engaging displays to promote new materials or special collections
- Plan and facilitate library programs and events, such as book clubs or storytime sessions
- Keep up-to-date with new releases in literature to assist patrons with book recommendations
- Evaluate current collection to determine areas that need expansion or weeding out
- Stay informed on library policies and procedures to provide excellent customer service to patrons
- Manage circulation desk duties, including checking out materials, accepting returns, and collecting fines/fees

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Strong knowledge of cataloging systems and library databases
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Customer service experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Knowledge of current trends in literature
- Proficiency in basic computer skills

Salary:
The starting salary for this position is $1200 per month.
