Library Technician


Washington Public Library is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Library Technician to join our team. This position is perfect for a Canadian professional looking to gain experience in the U.S. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for books and knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a high level of computer proficiency.

Responsibilities:
- Assist patrons with finding library materials and provide recommendations based on their interests
- Conduct circulation tasks such as checking out and returning materials, collecting fines, and updating patron records
- Maintain the organization and cleanliness of library materials, shelves, and workspaces
- Process new library materials including labeling, covering, and cataloging
- Assist with planning and implementing library programs and events for all age groups
- Provide basic technology support to patrons including setting up accounts, troubleshooting issues, and teaching basic computer skills
- Collaborate with other staff members to create displays and promote library resources

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Knowledge of library systems such as MARC records, Dewey Decimal Classification, or Library of Congress Classification
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to quickly learn new software programs
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Salary: $1500 per month
