Head Chef
As the Head Chef, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the kitchen and culinary operations in our Indian restaurant located in Nakuru, Kenya. You will bring your expertise and creativity to develop and execute innovative menus that showcase traditional Indian cuisine while also incorporating local flavors. Your main goal will be to ensure the highest quality of food and service, while also managing costs and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and develop menus that are authentic to Indian cuisine and reflect our restaurant's concept
- Oversee the preparation, cooking, and presentation of all food dishes
- Train, supervise, and mentor kitchen staff to maintain high standards of food quality and service
- Monitor inventory levels of food ingredients, equipment, and supplies; place orders as needed
- Control costs by minimizing waste, utilizing sustainable practices, and identifying opportunities for efficiency
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the kitchen
- Collaborate with management team to create promotions or special menu items to attract customers
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of fresh ingredients
- Stay updated on industry trends and new techniques in cooking to continuously improve our menu offerings
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Head Chef or Executive Chef in an Indian restaurant setting
- Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine with the ability to create authentic dishes from scratch
- Ability to lead a team effectively with excellent communication skills
- Understanding of food costs, labor costs, inventory management, and other financial aspects of running a kitchen
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Creativity in developing new menu items while also adhering to budget constraints
- Familiarity with health codes and regulations
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends
Qualifications:
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Head Chef or Executive Chef in an Indian restaurant
- Valid work permit for Kenya (visa sponsorship available for exceptional candidates)
- Fluent in English, knowledge of local languages is a plus
Salary:
Salary for this position is negotiable, starting at 1500$ per month based on experience and qualifications.
