Librarian Assistant

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Librarian Assistant to join our team in Mombasa. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a library setting, strong communication skills, and the ability to work well with others. This is a contract position with accommodation provided.

As a Librarian Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the librarian with various tasks such as cataloging books and materials, shelving books, organizing library events and programs, and providing customer service to library patrons. You must be able to handle multiple tasks at once and have excellent time management skills.

To be successful in this role, you must have a passion for books and knowledge, as well as strong computer skills. You should also be able to work independently and have a positive attitude. Fluency in English is required for this position.

Responsibilities:
- Catalog books and materials using the library's database system
- Organize library events and programs
- Provide customer service to library patrons
- Assist with shelving books and maintaining organization of shelves
- Help patrons locate materials within the library
- Create displays to promote new books or special collections
- Process new book orders and maintain inventory of current materials
- Assist with any other tasks assigned by the librarian

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Library Science preferred
- Previous experience working in a library setting preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment
- Computer proficiency, including knowledge of library database systems
- Positive attitude and ability to adapt to changing situations
- Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other languages is a plus
