Librarian Assistant


We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Librarian Assistant to join our library team in Lisbon. As a Librarian Assistant, you will assist the librarian with various tasks including cataloging, shelving, and maintaining library materials. This is an urgent role with a salary of $1600 per month without accommodation.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the librarian with cataloging new library materials
- Shelve and organize books according to the library's classification system
- Help patrons locate books and other materials
- Check books in and out using the library's computer system
- Maintain the appearance of the library by keeping shelves tidy and neat
- Process new library card applications and issue cards to patrons
- Create displays to promote new or popular books and events
- Assist with basic reference questions and refer more complex inquiries to the librarian
- Help troubleshoot any technical issues with computers or printers in the library

Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Library Science preferred
- Previous experience working in a library or similar environment is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with basic cataloging principles and classification systems (such as Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patrons of all ages and backgrounds
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, internet research, and using online databases
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. The schedule may include evenings and weekends. The salary for this position is $1600 per month without accommodation. As an urgent role, we are looking for someone who can start immediately.

Location:
This position is based in Lisbon, Portugal. We welcome candidates from all nationalities who have legal permission to work in Portugal.
