Library Assistant



Library assistants assist librarians in managing and maintaining library collections and resources. They perform a variety of tasks including shelving and organizing materials, checking out books to patrons, answering reference questions, and processing new materials.

Responsibilities:
- Organize and shelve books, periodicals, and other library materials according to classification system
- Assist with cataloguing new materials using library software
- Check out books to patrons and collect fines for overdue materials
- Answer basic reference questions and refer more complex inquiries to librarians
- Maintain library equipment such as computers, printers, and scanners
- Process new materials by covering books, labeling items, and entering information into the library system
- Assist with interlibrary loan requests from other libraries or institutions
- Help patrons locate materials within the library and retrieve items from storage areas if needed

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred
- Previous experience working in a library setting is a plus
- Knowledge of library organization systems and basic cataloguing principles
- Familiarity with library software or willingness to learn how to use it
- Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with diverse patrons in a friendly and professional manner
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently
- Attention to detail for organizing materials correctly
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds when shelving books or moving materials

This part-time position is suitable for both men and women. No prior experience is required. Applicants must have their own visa for employment in Salalah. The salary for this role is $1600 per month.
