Librarian - Svalbard

As a librarian in Svalbard, you will be responsible for managing and organizing the library's collection of books, journals, and other materials. Your main duties will include cataloging, classifying, and indexing materials using library software systems. You will also assist patrons with finding and checking out materials, as well as providing research assistance and reference services.

In addition to managing the library's physical materials, you will also be responsible for maintaining the library's online resources and databases. This may involve troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring that all online resources are up to date and accessible to patrons.

As a librarian in Svalbard, you may also have opportunities to plan and host events such as book clubs, author talks, or educational workshops for the community. You may also work closely with local schools to provide support for their curriculum and develop literacy programs for children.

The ideal candidate for this position should have a degree in Library Science or a related field. Previous experience working in a library setting is preferred but not required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential for this role. Additionally, proficiency in library software systems is preferred.

As this position is located in Svalbard, it is preferred that candidates have experience living in remote or isolated locations. Fluency in English is required, but knowledge of other languages used in Svalbard (such as Norwegian or Russian) would be an asset.
