Assistant Librarian

We are in need of a passionate and dedicated Assistant Librarian to join our team at the library in Svalbard. In this role, you will assist the Head Librarian in managing the daily operations of the library and providing excellent services to our patrons. This is an entry-level position that does not require previous experience, making it a great opportunity for recent graduates or those looking to start a career in library science.

Responsibilities:
- Assist with the organization and maintenance of the library's collection, including shelving books, cataloguing new materials, and weeding out outdated items
- Help patrons locate resources and provide guidance on how to use library services and equipment
- Process library card applications and maintain accurate records of borrowing activity
- Support the Head Librarian in planning and implementing educational programs and events for all ages
- Keep the library clean and organized, including dusting shelves, tidying workstations, and handling minor repairs
- Collaborate with other staff members to develop new initiatives and improve existing services
- Stay up-to-date with current trends in library science through professional development opportunities

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Passion for books, reading, and providing excellent customer service to diverse populations
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal English (knowledge of Norwegian is a plus)
- Proficiency in using technology commonly used in libraries (e.g. online databases, integrated library systems)
- Must have own valid visa for working in Svalbard

Salary:
