Librarian
A reputable library in the beautiful coastal city of Malindi is seeking a highly organized and knowledgeable Librarian to join our team. As a Librarian, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our collection of books, magazines, and other reading materials. Your main duties will include cataloging and classifying resources, assisting patrons with research inquiries, and overseeing the circulation of materials.
To excel in this role, you must have a passion for books and a strong understanding of library systems and procedures. The ideal candidate should also possess excellent communication skills to interact with diverse groups of people. Additionally, you must be able to work independently while also being a team player.
Responsibilities:
- Catalog and classify library resources using standard systems
- Assist patrons with research inquiries and provide recommendations for reading materials
- Oversee the circulation of materials by issuing and receiving library cards
- Maintain accurate records of borrowed materials
- Monitor the condition of library resources and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed
- Develop and implement programs to promote reading and literacy among patrons
- Create displays to highlight new or interesting resources in the library
- Process new acquisitions by adding them to the library's collection
- Train other staff members on library procedures and systems
- Stay up-to-date with new technologies related to libraries
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field
- Proven experience working as a Librarian
- Strong knowledge of library procedures, systems, and classification methods
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Strong organizational skills
- Attention to detail
- Passion for books and promoting literacy
Salary: 1400$ per month
