Assistant Librarian
We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Assistant Librarian to join our team at a prestigious library in Al Ahmadi. As an Assistant Librarian, you will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of the library and assisting patrons with their research needs. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for literature and information management, who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the library's collection of books, periodicals, and other materials
- Help patrons find and access materials for their research needs
- Coordinate interlibrary loan services and maintain accurate records of borrowed items
- Catalog new materials using the Dewey Decimal system or other library classification systems
- Maintain the library's online catalog and ensure it is updated regularly
- Plan and organize library events such as book clubs, author talks, or workshops
- Assist with circulation duties including checking in/out materials, collecting fines, and issuing library cards
- Answer reference questions and provide assistance with technology such as computers or printers
- Train new employees or volunteers on library procedures
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Previous experience working in a library setting is required
- Familiarity with information management systems and online databases
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proficient in English; knowledge of other languages is a plus
