Job Title: Librarian - Collections and Resource Management Specialist
As a Collections and Resource Management Specialist at our library in Svalbard, you will be responsible for managing and developing our physical and digital collections, as well as ensuring access to a wide range of resources for our patrons. This position requires a strong understanding of library science principles, as well as experience with collection development, cataloging, and database management.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain a diverse collection of physical books, ebooks, journals, databases, and other resources
- Select materials for acquisition based on community needs and usage data
- Catalog and classify materials according to established standards
- Manage subscriptions to electronic resources and troubleshoot access issues
- Collaborate with other librarians to identify gaps in the collection and make recommendations for improvement
- Keep up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in collections management
- Assist patrons with research inquiries and provide guidance on utilizing library resources effectively
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a library setting, preferably in collection development or resource management
- Familiarity with cataloging standards such as AACR2, RDA, MARC21
- Experience working with electronic resources and databases
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and assist patrons from diverse backgrounds
Salary: $1400 per month (negotiable based on qualifications)
