Contract Librarian (Bergen, Norway)



We are seeking a knowledgeable and organized Contract Librarian to join our team in Bergen, Norway. As a Contract Librarian, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our library, including cataloguing, collection development, and assisting patrons with research and reference inquiries. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Library Science or related field, experience with library management systems and strong customer service skills. This is a contract position without accommodation provided, so candidates must have their own visa and be legally authorized to work in Norway. Women are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization, maintenance, and accessibility of library materials
- Develop and maintain a diverse collection of materials to meet the needs of library users
- Catalogue new materials using appropriate classification systems
- Assist patrons with research inquiries by providing guidance on information resources and research strategies
- Provide reference services by answering questions and providing information on library services
- Plan and implement engaging programs for library patrons such as book clubs or workshops
- Promote the library's resources and services through outreach efforts

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field
- Proven experience working in a library setting, preferably as a librarian or assistant librarian
- Knowledge of library management systems and cataloguing standards such as MARC21 or AACR2
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to assist diverse groups of individuals
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues
- Fluency in English (Norwegian language skills preferred but not required)
- Must have valid authorization to work in Norway
