Title: Preservation Architect
As a Preservation Architect, you will be responsible for preserving and restoring historical buildings and sites in the Faroe Islands. You will work closely with local authorities, historians, and construction teams to ensure that these structures are maintained in their original form while also meeting modern safety and accessibility standards. This is a unique opportunity to use your architectural skills to protect the cultural heritage of this beautiful island nation.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of historical buildings and sites to determine necessary preservation and restoration work
- Develop preservation plans and present them to local authorities for approval
- Collaborate with construction teams to oversee the execution of preservation projects
- Ensure that all preservation work adheres to local regulations, building codes, and historical guidelines
- Utilize advanced design software to create detailed plans for restoration projects
- Work with historians, archaeologists, and other experts to research the history of buildings and sites
- Identify potential risks or challenges in preserving a structure and develop solutions to address them
- Provide regular progress updates to stakeholders throughout the preservation process
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field
- At least 3 years of experience as an Architect, preferably with a focus on historic preservation
- Knowledge of local architectural styles, building materials, and techniques used in traditional Faroese construction
- Excellent design skills and proficiency in CAD software
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Good understanding of conservation principles and practices
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders including local authorities, construction teams, and historians
- Fluent in English (knowledge of Danish or Faroese is a plus)
Salary: 1600$ per month (negotiable based on experience)
Location: Faroe Islands (accommodation provided if needed)
