Reference Librarian


A reference librarian is responsible for providing effective research assistance and information services to library patrons. They must have a thorough understanding of library resources and be able to assist patrons in finding relevant information for their needs. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong knowledge of library cataloging systems. The ideal candidate will also have experience in conducting in-depth reference interviews and providing instruction on how to use library resources.

Responsibilities:
- Assist patrons with research inquiries and provide guidance on how to access and use library resources
- Conduct reference interviews to determine the specific information needs of patrons
- Utilize print and electronic resources to locate relevant information for patrons
- Provide instruction on how to use library databases, catalogs, and other resources
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the library's collection and available resources
- Create resource guides and instructional materials to assist patrons in their research process
- Collaborate with other librarians and staff members to improve reference services and collection development
- Attend professional development workshops or conferences as needed.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science or related field
- Previous experience working as a librarian or in a reference-related role preferred
- Strong knowledge of library cataloging systems and online databases
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to conduct effective reference interviews with patrons of various backgrounds
- Familiarity with current trends in reference services
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Salary: $1400 per month (negotiable based on experience)
