Preservation Architect
A Preservation Architect is responsible for preserving and restoring historic buildings, sites, and structures. They must have a deep understanding of architectural history, design principles, and building techniques in order to accurately assess and plan for the conservation of these structures. This role requires strong communication and project management skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with teams of engineers, contractors, and community stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of historic buildings and structures to identify preservation needs
- Develop preservation plans that adhere to local, state, and federal regulations
- Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and other professionals to ensure accurate execution of preservation plans
- Communicate regularly with clients and community stakeholders to provide updates on project progress
- Prepare detailed reports outlining preservation plans, budget estimates, and timelines
- Oversee construction work on preservation projects to ensure adherence to plans and guidelines
- Conduct research on historical architecture styles, materials, and techniques in order to inform preservation decisions
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related field required
- Previous experience working on historic preservation projects preferred but not required
- Strong knowledge of architectural history, design principles, and building techniques
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
- Project management experience preferred
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively within tight deadlines
