Preservation Architect

The Preservation Architect will be responsible for overseeing and managing the preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation of historic buildings and structures in Funchal. This includes conducting site visits, preparing reports and assessments, developing preservation plans, and overseeing construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a degree in architecture with a specialization in historic preservation, as well as experience working on similar projects. This is a part-time position that may require flexible hours, with a salary of 1400$ per month. Visa sponsorship is available for non-local candidates. This is an urgent position and the selected candidate must be able to start immediately. Please note that accommodation will not be provided.

For this role, we are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills. The Preservation Architect must have a strong understanding of architectural design principles and techniques for historic buildings, as well as knowledge of local building codes and regulations. The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team is essential.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct site visits to assess the condition of historic buildings and structures
- Prepare detailed reports outlining recommendations for preservation, restoration, or rehabilitation
- Develop preservation plans that balance the needs of conservation with practical considerations
- Oversee construction projects to ensure compliance with design plans and specifications
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in preservation projects

Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture with a specialization in historic preservation
- Minimum 3 years experience working on preservation projects
- Strong knowledge of architectural design principles for historic buildings
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations related to preservation work
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
