Library Assistant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Library Assistant to join our team at the Washington Public Library. As a Library Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the librarian in various tasks including cataloging, shelving, and providing customer service to library patrons. This is a part-time position with flexible hours that would be ideal for students or individuals looking for additional income.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the librarian in cataloging and organizing library materials
- Shelve books and other materials according to the library's classification system
- Provide excellent customer service to library patrons by answering questions and helping them locate materials
- Assist with circulation tasks such as checking books in and out, issuing library cards, and collecting fines
- Maintain a clean and organized library environment by ensuring shelves are neat and materials are properly displayed
- Help with planning and implementing library programs and events
- Keep track of inventory and assist with ordering new materials when needed
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in Library Science or related field preferred
- Strong organizational skills with great attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of library classification systems and basic cataloging principles
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
Salary: $1200 per month (part-time)
Location: Washington (preference for candidates already living in the city)
Visa sponsorship: Not provided, must be legally authorized to work in the US.
