Kuwait is a small Persian Gulf country characterized by a high standard of living and rapid economic development. Thanks to the rich oil fields and skillful leadership of the local authorities, this state has become one of the richest in its region in a short time. Nowadays, vacancies in Kuwait attract specialists worldwide because working in this country allows you to increase your income and move up the career ladder. In addition, people get the opportunity to work legally in Kuwait, realizing their potential and receiving a high salary.

Most of the indigenous population of Kuwait works for foreign companies located in the country. A law here allows a foreign company to open a branch only if a Kuwaiti resident becomes a partner of the company and a certain number of Kuwaitis are hired. In addition, the minimum wage is also set by law. Although Kuwait is home to approximately 4 million people, the indigenous population is only 1 million.

This state is very favorable to migrants, especially for qualified specialists and people who want to develop their businesses. As a result, the number of immigrants from other countries far exceeds the number of Kuwaitis, and newcomers work in various industries, perfectly adapting to the hot climate and cultural characteristics. Thanks to this, knowing Arabic ideally is unnecessary to be successful. The main thing is to be fluent in English.

An essential advantage of this country is the absence of taxation. Here you receive the entire salary without deducting various fees and mandatory contributions. In addition, life in Kuwait is significantly cheaper than in the UAE or Qatar, so a professional with a stable job can afford suitable housing, vacation, and savings.

But coming to this country and getting a job in a local company is impossible. Work in Kuwait for foreigners is possible only if they have an existing contract with the employer. Only in this case can a work permit be obtained. At the same time, the receiving party is considered a sponsor, so it assumes all administrative costs, including the costs of:

  • issuing an invitation letter;

  • visa issuance;

  • obtaining a work permit.

The employer is also responsible for the invited employee while he lives in the country. Therefore, a visiting specialist can always count on support and assistance in essential matters.

Organizations have relatively high requirements for applicants, including:

  • fluency in English;

  • availability of documents confirming the level of education and qualifications of the applicant for the chosen position;

  • experience in a similar situation.

In turn, they offer high salaries, a social package that includes medical care, accommodation and transfer to the place of work, and paid vacation.

Why is Kuwait a good place for working and living?

Kuwait is considered a high-income economy. The country has one of the largest oil reserves in the world. The Kuwaiti dinar is the highest currency in the world. Kuwait has the 4th highest per capita income.

There are many opportunities for foreigners in the local labor market, but most vacancies are open in recreation and tourism. Hotels, restaurants, fitness clubs, and beauty salons offer good jobs in Kuwait for girls and men, with salaries starting from $1,000 for regular positions (waiter, hostess, cook, bartender) in restaurants and hotels (receptionist, guest relation agent, lobby hostess, related specialists), from $2000-2500 for specialists in the field of beauty, sports, education. Doctors in Kuwait receive from $5000, depending on the position, and teachers - from $1500 to $2500. In addition, specialists with experience in trade and sales, construction, and IT are in demand.

Kuwait is a good place that has a vibrant free economy, with a significant portion of its revenues from oil and gas exports.

Kuwait

Since the mid to late 2010s, Kuwait has initiated a national development plan to diversify its economy. The program aims to transform Kuwait into a leading financial center and position Kuwait as a global center for the petrochemical industry. As a result, the Kuwaiti infrastructure market has entered a new growth phase. Kuwait was the largest consumer in the region of oil and gas mega-projects for two years. Currently, Kuwait is one of the largest infrastructure markets in the area. In addition, living in Kuwait is attractive because it is the third-largest market in the region in terms of project pipeline size.

Kuwait has an enormous wealth management industry that stands out in the region. Kuwaiti investment companies manage more assets than any other country in the GCC, except for the much larger Saudi Arabia. The Kuwait Financial Center estimates that Kuwaiti firms account for more than a third of the total assets under management in the GCC.

Work visas are issued to employees of the public and private sectors. To acquire a residence visa to Kuwait on a work visa, you must first accept the offered job. Then, the Kuwaiti employer sponsor will apply for a work permit from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. The work permit requires the employee's passport and a certificate of no objection.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs will send a copy of the work permit to the Kuwaiti Embassy in the employee's country of residence. The sponsor/employer must send a copy of the employee's work permit for collection to the embassy. In addition, the employee must apply for a Kuwaiti visa. Private sector workers require a copy of the authorized signatory of the employer registered to do business.

If there is no Kuwaiti embassy in the employee's home country, the sponsor must present the work permit to the Ministry of Interior to obtain an entry visa.

If the worker was on a Kuwaiti visitor visa when they got the job, they must leave the country and return for a new entry visa. Most nationalities must return to their home country for medical tests and approval from their country's Kuwaiti embassy. For Westerners, it is possible to make a one-day trip to Bahrain by air.

Kuwaiti society is diverse and tolerant. Most Kuwaiti citizens are Muslims: 60%-65% are Sunnis, and 35%-40% are Shiites. Most of the country's Shiites are of Persian descent. Kuwait includes an indigenous Christian community estimated to consist of 259 to 400 Christian citizens of Kuwait. The country is the only GCC country, other than Bahrain, where the local Christian population has citizenship. There are also a few Baha'i citizens of Kuwait. Kuwait also has a large expatriate community of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs.

How is life for an Indian living in Kuwait?

If you have the opportunity to go to work and live in Kuwait, get ready to advance your career! Every year, substantial oil reserves and great emigrant opportunities attract thousands of foreigners who want to work in Kuwait.

You don't need to speak Arabic to work in Kuwait because of the many multinational firms and English-speaking communities. Expats with skills in demand in the country's booming economy are welcomed here with open arms.

All expats must obtain a work permit before being employed in Kuwait. A work permit is only issued if the expat has a valid job offer. The company that invites you is the sponsor. It handles all administrative matters, including invitations, visas, and work permits. In addition, your employer would be responsible for you while you lived in Kuwait and is responsible if you violated any rules.

While in Kuwait, expats have access to government medical care. In addition, there are no taxes in Kuwait, even for expats working in Kuwait. There is also no VAT. So nothing will be deducted from your salary.

The advantages of this country's residents include their religiosity, hospitality, and integrity. Given the benefits, and despite all the disadvantages, it is possible to live and work in the country.

The best things about working in Kuwait for expats

The cost of living in Kuwait is lower than in expensive Qatar and the UAE. And the level of wages for foreign workers is higher than in the same Qatar or the Arab Emirates, where the increased demand for jobs from emigrants has led to lower wages. The cost of living in Kuwait is more or less equivalent to living in Europe. Lack of taxation and cheap gasoline are essential advantages of living in Kuwait.

But life in Kuwait is not just about work. Kuwait offers many activities, from restaurants and malls to beach clubs and trips to the desert. If you're a connoisseur of high art, it's helpful to know that Kuwait is home to the largest opera house in the Middle East. In addition, you'll find dozens of sports clubs and societies where you can meet like-minded expats.

Because expats outnumber the local population, Kuwait is used to mixing with other cultures. Still, it is an Islamic state where religious laws govern public and private life. Therefore, women must dress modestly, and couples must refrain from public displays of affection.

Interesting facts about Kuwait:

  • The percentage of emigrants in Kuwait is 70%.

  • Temperatures in summer can reach 50 degrees Celsius, but thanks to the widespread use of air conditioning, life in Kuwait can be tolerated.

  • In 2006, Kuwait became the first country to introduce the "Camel Race" sport with remote-controlled robot jockeys.

  • In 2005, women gained the right to vote and participate in elections.

Kuwait is widely considered the "Hollywood of the Gulf" because of the popularity of its soap operas and theater.

Regarding expats, it is a popular destination for migrants seeking a solid international population. In addition, Kuwait will appeal to those guests who want to see the life of modern cities in the Middle East. Here you can visit the beautiful Grand Mosque, museums with unique exhibitions, and luxurious palaces, and then dine in a restaurant on the top floors of the Kuwait towers. In addition, you can visit the Kuwaiti Stock Exchange, which is open to the public.

Do HR specialists in Kuwait speak English? What English level is in demand for people who want to work? Is it necessary to pass any exams or tests to prove it? Or is good conversational English enough to get a job?

Should I pay for any help before getting a job? I have seen a lot of agencies asking to pay first and guaranteeing job offers after that, but it seems like it could be more dangerous. Can you recommend any trusted resources with vacancies?
