Skills:
Skills and Achievements
Communication
· Strong verbal communication skills developed during work experience and clinical dietetic placements. I have experience listening to and talking with patients with limited speech or brain injury. I am also bilingual, thus further minimising communication barriers.
· Due to COVID-19, all the communication was done virtually, so I have experience completing dietetic consultations via video and over the phone.
Teamwork
· I am aware of the value of the dietetic team and interprofessional team. My experience has highlighted the importance of having a good relationship with members of the MDT and being aware of their roles to enable appropriate referrals when needed.
Clinical governance
· Clinical governance is a process that ensures organisations continue improving their service quality. Standards set by the HCPC mean dietitians regularly engage in principles of clinical governance, such as audits, contributing to their continuing professional development. During clinical placements, I completed a quality improvement project which involved observing a process and suggesting improvements, enabling it to become more efficient and effective. This was the referral method to the dietetics department; improvements included streamlining this process and making it electronic. I demonstrated my inventiveness and initiative and would feel comfortable undertaking further projects to help improve processes and utilise resources more effectively.
Professionalism
· I have engaged with my professional development by producing an e-portfolio to document my growth in line with the HCPC standards of proficiency. I have clearly shown through evidence that I can demonstrate and understand the importance of these standards in terms of what they mean for practice.
· I know that each trust may have different policies and guidelines within its dietetics department; I became familiar with these before commencing all my placements and adhered to them.
