Autonomous Underwater Vehicle: Payload Controller & Acoustic Localization - Multidisiplinary Team Project
Implemented ESP32 actuator firmware (up to 4 servos) with EMA smoothing, hysteresis, and one-shot OPEN/CLOSE state machine, and debugged PWM signals using an oscilloscope.
Bench-validated payload actuation through 50 consecutive underwater open/close cycles (0 failures), 30 s hold (no slip), and 1.5 s timing; measured peak and idle currents using lab instruments and documented results.
Designed and simulated an acoustic localization approach using fixed pinger locations and bearing sweeps; validated hydrophone directional response and waypoints bearing extraction through Gazebo simulation.
Magnetic levitation: Closed-loop control (Arduino Uno, C/C++) - Solo Project
Modeled/linearized the plant and tuned PID controller (K_p=45,K_i=10,K_d=2.5); achieved 2 cm levitation setpoint.
Design constraints include contraption height < 30 cm, voltage of 12 V, current < 4 A, total cost < $50.
Embedded Environmental Monitoring & Control (LPC1768, C/C++) - Team Project
Integrated DHT22, BMP180, PIR, and LDR sensors; displayed readings and alerts on a 16×2 LCD, using an oscilloscope and probes to verify signal integrity and debug sensor interfaces
Built setting and operation modes with button-driven thresholds; added ADC-based fan-voltage monitoring (auto shutoff) and occupancy-based energy saving, capturing voltage waveforms via oscilloscope to validate ADC accuracy
Image Classification: Fashion-MNIST Clothing (MATLAB) - Solo Project
Developed and evaluated multiple machine learning and deep learning methods on the Fashion-MNIST dataset.
Conducted model selection using a 50k image training set, 10k image validation set, and 10k image test set.
Reduced feature dimensionality, using PCA, from 784 pixels to 459 and 188 principal components, preserving 99% and 95% of dataset variance, respectively.
Performed hyperparameter tuning on validation set, including K-selection and learning-rate optimization and convolutional layers selection to optimized validation set accuracy.
Best validation accuracies were used on the test set with accuracies of KNN_best=86.1%,MCLR_best=84.51%, CNN_best=90.37%.
Digital audio filtering: FIR filtering pipeline on ESP32 (MATLAB and C/C++) - Team Project
Designed FIR high-pass + low-pass filters in MATLAB; exported coefficients to C headers and validated performance via spectrogram/waterfall analysis.
Implemented an ESP32 SD-card filtering pipeline (SPI): processed 44.1 kHz audio in 512-sample blocks, applied HPF→LPF (80-tap each), and generated filtered CSV + 16-bit PCM WAV output.
Satellite Communications Ground Station (Raspberry Pi 5, SATNOGS Debian Linux) Team Project
Designed and implemented an SDR-based satellite ground station (Raspberry Pi 5, RTL-SDR, GNU Radio, Docker) for 401.540 MHz UHF telemetry reception.
Implemented a receive chain operating at 2.048 MS/s and decoded 4,800 baud GMSK/AX.25 transmissions into recoverable telemetry frames.
Successfully received and processed satellite, contributing verified observations to the global SatNOGS network.
Cross-validated decoded packets against 272 community-captured frames from 17 stations, matching 257 identical AX.25 headers and confirming protocol-level accuracy.
Diagnosed and resolved power, networking, USB-permission, and SDR integration issues, enabling reliable end-to-end operation from RF reception through protocol-layer decoding.
