About the Team
CTO/Chief Technical Officer: Responsible for creating and communicating technical/scientific vision and strategy in a sub-part of the overall organization (major region region country group division subsidiary or other sub-part) or may be one of several executives responsible for the function at the corporate level. Works with the organization's senior executive team at a peer level and is either an individual contributor or may manage a small staff. The position does not oversee the organization's entire product development/engineering function.
About the Role

Connect with the CIO Community
Create a connection with CIO/CTO/CDO and other executives at companies throughout the region. Often these connections will be formed as part of sales engagements. These connections and the regular conversations with IT leadership form the basis for the CTO Japan’s knowledge of the needs of the market.

Supporting our selling efforts
Tell Workday’s technology story in sales situations and to prospects and customers. Establish and build a strong connection with the entire sales organization from individual contributors to upper management.

Participating in marketing events targeted to a CIO audience
Participation in marketing events organized by marketing as well as the sales organization. This includes helping to promote and organize “road shows” with representatives or regions that are looking for support. May include participating in Workday sponsored events such as Rising and Elevate.

Connection to Development Organization
Keeping in touch with Workday development to make sure our messaging reflects our development initiatives and to give development input on future direction based on knowledge gained from IT Executives.

Educating the Field
Working with the Sales and Pre-Sales organizations to ensure their messaging reflects our actual technology plans and to influence how they deliver the message. Can include developing content for use by the Pre-sales organization and participating in training events for both Pre-sales and Sales.
Knowledge and Connection to Workday Sales
Understanding the Workday sales process is critical to this role. Being well connected with the sales organization at all levels (from individual contributor up to top management) is key to success since the opinion of the “field” is what will ensure engagement in the most important opportunities.

Knowledge and Connection to Workday Development and Operations
The Japan CTO must have or build a strong knowledge of Workday Development and Operations functions. This includes connecting with key individuals in these organizations.

About You

Native Level Japanese SpeakerBackground in Enterprise SoftwarePrior experience with a US or European based Enterprise Software vendor is very important to ensure understanding the complexities of this role. HR/Finance specific knowledge is a benefit as well.
Developer background/mindset
The CTO Japan role requires a strong technical background that includes some experience in development/IT. Credibility amongst architects and developers is critical and is built upon a deep understanding of how Workday builds our service. This should include a strong understanding of Enterprise SaaS/Cloud as well as knowledge of AI/ML topics.

Having a point of view
When interacting with technology executives it is important to have a clear opinion on technology and management.

Executive presence
In addition to having a point of view being able to gain instant credibility with executives at prospects and customers is a core skill for this role.

Engaging and confident presenter
Whether in-person via conference call or on video this role requires a confident presentation style which is both engaging and conversational.
