We are looking for a Librarian to join our team in Dubai. We are willing to consider applicants from outside the country who are legally authorized to work.
Job Description:
The Librarian will be responsible for managing the library resources within the organization. This includes overseeing the collection development, cataloging and maintenance of library materials, as well as administering library services such as circulation, interlibrary loan and reference services. The Librarian will also be responsible for training and supervising library staff on best practices in librarianship and providing information literacy instruction to students and other patrons of the library.
Responsibilities:
• Maintaining the library collection by selecting, ordering and organizing new materials; maintaining records of current holdings; weeding out outdated materials; cataloguing new acquisitions; preparing bibliographies of materials in specific subject areas; and creating displays to promote new items or collections
• Providing reference services to patrons by helping them find materials using online databases, printed indexes, subject headings and other reference tools; assisting with research projects; creating bibliographies; providing information about authors or titles; giving directions on how to use resources; resolving complaints from patrons about services or materials
• Training library staff in librarianship techniques such as cataloguing procedures, reference techniques, automated systems use, reader's advisory skills etc.
• Developing policies on acquisition of library materials according to budget allocations and local needs
• Promoting the use of electronic resources by offering instruction on the use of electronic databases such as EBSCOHost or LexisNexis Academic
• Administering circulation activities including issuing books/materials to patrons according to established procedures; collecting overdue material fees etc.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science (MLS) required
• Previous experience in a Library setting preferred
Desired Skills:
• Knowledge of automated library systems such as SirsiDynix Symphony or Koha ILS
• Excellent communication skills both verbal & written
• Ability to provide excellent customer service
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Excel)
