Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) is seeking motivated talented a Senior or Lead Battery and Electrical Power Systems Engineer (level 4 or 5) to join the Maritime and Intelligence Systems (M&IS) team located in Huntington Beach CA.

As a M&IS Senior Battery and Electrical Power Systems Engineer you will be part of a bi-coastal team delivering the best solutions for today’s complex undersea engineering challenges. Our products range from highly capable Autonomous Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (XLUUVs) to unique Integrated Mission’s underwater solutions for a variety of customers. You will be responsible for designing integrating and testing engineering solutions for battery and electrical power systems and other electronic components and systems across the full product lifecycle including both enhancing existing field units with the addition of new capabilities as well as architecting completely new systems.
In this hands-on role you’ll be working directly on state-of-the-art M&IS projects where you will have opportunities to lead a growing team of Engineers collaborating with Chief Engineers technical experts and our customers on more than 20 programs across 3 major portfolios as well as provide technical support to suppliers. The day-to-day activities of this position will include architecting new engineering solutions as well as performing and leading integration test and troubleshooting of maritime electrical electronic and electromechanical systems during which you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional peers lead and mentor others and drive the team to solve technical challenges to support our diverse portfolios.
Our Bi-Coastal team is located in Huntington Beach CA and Herndon VA – with active growth at both sites!
Primary Responsibilities:
Analyze customer and system requirements to develop architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various M&IS electronic products including requirements interface and electronic & energy/power system architecture definitions.
Develop designs consistent with requirements and specifications including appropriate component selections circuit designs and supporting modeling and analysis.
Support Supplier Management with make/buy recommendations and other technical services to include technical oversight and coordination of supplier's activities.
Lead electronics hardware design verification through various methods of review testing simulation and analysis. Identify track and status technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements.
Support fabrication maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical electronic energy and electromechanical systems for M&IS projects such as XLUUVs payloads and other integrated missions solutions including hands-on leadership to troubleshoot hardware and test setups using schematics multi-meters oscilloscopes etc.
Resolve complex issues on critical programs related to architectural approaches requirements specifications and design.
Investigate emerging technologies to develop new concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements recommending and managing technology insertion while working under consultative direction.
Lead technical aspects of proposal preparation. Identify critical performance measures and develop processes for computing them.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment.An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start as well as a Tier 5 (T5) investigation formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering computer science mathematics physics or chemistry
Experience with configuration and analysis of vehicle power systems including fuel cell and battery based systems
Minimum 3 years of experience developing complex electronic and electrical systems
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Active U.S. Security Clearance
Experience in developing electronic architectures for electric / autonomous vehicles.
Knowledge of high-performance motor control algorithms and software.
Familiarity with multilayer mixed-signal circuits sensors analog/digital conversion firmware/FPGA programming including VHDL use of test equipment test design.
Experience developing innovative analog power and/or digital circuit design principles (e.g. frequency voltage thermal bandwidth mismatch) to design simulate and layout circuit boards.
Experience in optical systems design including infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO) visible ultraviolet (UV) photonics fiber high energy laser optics systems design methods (e.g. optical opto-mechanical supportability life-cycle) for communications measurements surveillance tactical strategic and weapons applications (e.g. component unit subsystem system algorithm software design low observables).
Experience troubleshooting shipboard navigation communication and power systems.
Experience working with UUVs.
Computing experience (electronic interfaces military communication protocols equipment environmental requirements).
Team experience (Agile work environment formal technical presentations formal customer presentations).
Experience with Engineering Release process (including conceptual design drawing review and approval).
Experience with production and fabrication support including:
Material Review Board (MRB)
Non-Conformance (NCR) disposition
Supplier Information Requests (SIR)
Able to apply advanced job principles theories and concepts and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts as well as advanced job practices techniques and standards.
Able to work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
Experience with battery system design and logistics including knowledge of battery electrochemical characteristics and system conops / constraints to appropriately size and select batteries and implement system battery designs performing selection of battery topologies weighing energy densities environmental effects safety considerations life cost maintenance complexities etc.
Recognized as a job expert within the company.

Experience in working with suppliers in developing testing certifying and delivering complex electronic electrical and/or energy & power systems.
Experience in troubleshooting electronic and electromechanical systems and associated test equipment.
Experience with HWIL testing of embedded systems
Knowledge of general maintenance and environment processes (FOD control tool control health & safety).
Experience in testing and validation of system designs to ensure they meet operational and functional requirements.
Able to adjust priorities to multiple demands and unanticipated events.

In the USA ABET accreditation is the preferred although not required accreditation standard.
Level 5: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering computer science mathematics physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience Master+12 years' related work experience).
